The 6th Model African Union-Extraordinary Summit is a transformative, pan-African, AU simulation experience where young people step into the shoes of Head of States and Presidents of AU Member States simulating the African Union’s decision-making processes. The summit is designed to engage African youth in continental diplomacy, governance, and policymaking.

The summit mirrors the structure and operations of the African Union, offering young leaders a unique opportunity to collaboratively explore and address Africa’s most pressing challenges for African development. The 6th Model African Union Extraordinary Summit will take place in in Kigali Rwanda in November 2026, marking a historic moment in bringing young Africans into the very halls where continental decisions are made. The summit will be held in collaboration with Never Again Rwanda, African Union Commission, UNDP regional office Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

THEME: ENVIRONMENTAL AND CLIMATE JUSTICE AS FOUNDATIONS FOR PEACE, GOVERNANCE, AND AFRICAN RESILIENCE

SUMMIT STRUCTURE 

The summit will feature high-level keynote speeches and simulations of key African Union organs

  • Opening Ceremony and High-Level Keynote Speeches

    The summit will officially commence with opening ceremony and high-level keynote speeches featuring remarks from African Union officials, government representatives, diplomats, development partners, youth leaders, and distinguished guests. The keynote sessions will provide strategic insights and inspire delegates to explore innovative solutions for advancing environmental and climate justice as critical foundations for peace, good governance, sustainable development, and a resilient Africa highlighting the importance of youth leadership, climate justice, peace, governance, and African resilience in shaping the continent's future.

  • African Union Assembly

    Delegates will debate continental issues, deliver presidential speeches, negotiate resolutions, and adopt declarations. Guided by the summit theme Environmental and Climate Justice as Foundations for Peace, Governance, and African Resilience delegates will examine how environmental sustainability and climate justice can strengthen governance systems, promote inclusive development, and build a resilient Africa capable of addressing present and future challenges.

  • African Union Peace and Security Council (AUPSC)

    Delegates will deliberate on the growing impact of climate change and environmental degradation on peace and security across Africa. Through discussions on topics, delegates will explore how resource scarcity, climate-induced displacement, food insecurity, and environmental conflicts threaten stability and development. They will negotiate policy responses and develop strategies aimed at strengthening climate resilience, preventing conflicts, and promoting sustainable peace across the continent.

  • African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR)

    Delegates will examine climate change and environmental degradation from a human rights perspective, focusing on their impact on vulnerable communities, including youth, women, indigenous populations, and displaced persons. Delegates will debate how environmental and climate justice can advance human dignity, protect fundamental rights, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities for all Africans. Together, these three organs will provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of how environmental and climate justice intersects with governance, peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development, while contributing to the realization of Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.
